Bland de mest intressanta partierna i dagens Europa finns Jobbik, överhuvudtaget är situationen i Ungern väl värd att bekanta sig med för systemkritiker. I likhet med många post-kommunistiska länder har Ungern haft problem både med korruption och nyliberalism, och USA har ersatt Sovjet som hegemon. Samtidigt finns det betydande ungerska minoriteter i grannländerna, och en stor romsk minoritet i Ungern. Sammantaget har det alltså funnits goda förutsättningar för en politisk rörelse som kombinerar nationalism, populism och konservatism, en nisch Jobbik framgångsrikt fyllt. Samtidigt har landet som helhet tagit både reella och symboliska steg i riktning mot nationell suveränitet, vilket lett till kritik från bland annat eurokratin och västerländsk media.
Hungary was not admitted to the EU so that we could develop. The goal was to colonize us, to exploit our cheap labour and acquire our markets. Western companies and banks now try to maintain their systems by using the profit they pump out of our country in the East. And this is just the economic side of the problem. The EU did not bring any good in terms of the spiritual, mental side, either. After the anti-value approach of Communism, we are now living in the valuelessness of capitalism. I personally follow traditionalist principles, in other words, I believe that Europe should get back to its own roots and rearrange its relationship with other traditional cultures that only exist in the East now.

Man känner igen flera inslag från europeisk konservatism i Jobbiks politiska program. Där finns en flexibel syn på ekonomin, där staten har en roll för att undvika marknadsekonomins ibland oönskade resultat samtidigt som man inte vill ha en planekonomi. Staten ska vara potent men inte onödigt klåfingrig. Släktskapet med kristen sociallära är tydligt, även i sådant som strävan efter att återge arbetet dess status. Man kan också notera strävan efter nationell suveränitet även på det ekonomiska området.
The land privatisation legislation passed in the 1990s prepared the ground for arable land speculation, and the spectacle of foreign nationals obtaining Hungarian land, through the use of proxy ownership ”fronting” agreements. By initiating legislative changes to land law, we will prevent foreign nationals from obtaining ownership of farmland even after the current moratorium expires; and will guarantee a purchasing right of first refusal to young local farmers, we will also ensure the destitute have the chance to use arable land via their local councils under a community farmland scheme.

Vad gäller synen på landsbygd, självhushållning och miljö finns tydliga likheter med den arkeofuturism som John Järvenpää utvecklar i För livets skull. Detta gäller även partiets familjepolitik.
With regard to the framework of Eurasian cooperation, I don’t see the actual opportunities yet, because first we must define the basic values and the consequent strategy that could attract the widest possible circles. This is the challenge now, and Jobbik is the only Hungarian political entity willing to meet it. The others are all Atlanticists, and they will remain so until history passes them.

Jobbik har också en intressant utrikespolitik, där man betonar vikten av en god relation till östliga grannar som Ryssland och stödjer palestiniernas rättigheter. Man kan här jämföra med det eurasiska projektet.
Predominantly resident in the North and East of Hungary, the Gypsy population was primarily employed in the manufacturing industry in 1989. The complete destruction of this industry, that came hand in hand with the change, has produced a situation in which significant communities of individuals have not seen work, for some two decades. It is this, the socio-cultural economic circumstances of such people, that has led to the predominant commission of certain types of crimes; and it has nothing at all to do with their ethnic origin.

Jobbik har beskrivits som högerextremt och fientligt mot romer, men när man studerar dess egna publikationer kan man snarare identifiera en paternalistisk inställning till minoriteten. Överhuvudtaget framstår inte romer som en central politisk fråga för Jobbik, den föreslagna politiken är ”färgblind”. Man kan förövrigt misstänka att reell nationell suveränitet och därtill knuten ekonomisk politik skulle gynna även den romska minoriteten.
